Part of being a parent includes teaching your kids how to live on their own when they become adults. When this is done correctly, not only will your kids be able to know how to live with roommates or by themselves once they leave home, but they will also become more responsible when living at home as well. But to get to this point, you have to do a lot of teaching.
If you’ve realized that your teen doesn’t know how to properly clean a bathroom yet, here are three things you should teach them about cleaning and maintaining a home’s bathroom.
Teach Them To Clean Like You Do
While you can leave your teen to figure out how to clean on their own, what’s going to help you get the actual result you want is if you can teach them how to clean like you do.
The best way to do this is to have your teen shadow you while you clean the bathroom like normal. Once you’ve finished cleaning one part of the bathroom, have them clean that same part just as you showed them. This can help them learn how you prefer things to be cleaned as well as give them a chance to see just what it takes to get a bathroom cleaned properly. You can also help adjust their technique or give them additional pointers as you see necessary.
Teach Them What Cleaners To Use Where
Something that won’t come naturally to your teen is knowing which cleaners to use for which parts of the bathroom. This is something that you’re going to have to teach them.
If you use chemical cleaners, be sure you give them a rundown as to what is in them and how to best use them. You should also tell them where in the bathroom they can be used and where in the bathroom they shouldn’t be used. If you use natural cleaners, consider having your teen help you make the cleaner that you use so that they can learn how to do this important step, too.
Teach Them How To Fix Something When It’s Not Right
A part of keeping a bathroom cleaned and well maintained includes knowing how to fix something small when it’s not right. So as part of your teaching and training, make sure you include things like how to plunge a toilet, how to fix a tub drain stopper or unclog a bathtub drain, what to do if they notice a leak coming from the sink, and more.
If you think your teen is ready to take on some more responsibility by learning how to clean that bathroom in your home, consider using the tips mentioned above as you teach them this valuable life skill.
