What Triggers Stress?

C:\Users\rocco\Downloads\Image.jpeg

Your heart is hammering in your chest as you walk up to the front of the room to give a presentation. Your palms are sweating and you feel yourself stumble over your words a little. After your presentation is done and you sit back down, your body begins to return to normal.

This is what we call acute stress. It’s a short burst of anxiety that goes away after a while. It’s manageable, unlike chronic stress.

What triggers stress and how can we control it? There are a few simple things that get everyone. Follow along as we tell you what they are.

Fear and Uncertainty

As you sit down at night doom scrolling through your phone, you see talks of unrest and global warming. These are things that you can’t control. It’s enough to send anyone into a downward spiral.

Handling stress is all a matter of knowing when to put down the phone and give it a rest for the night. What you can’t run away from is fear of things that hit closer to home.

The uncertainty of having enough money to pay your bills during the month or if you’ll be able to get your work done on time.

Unrealistic Expectations

We get this idea of ourselves in our heads. When we don’t meet the expectations that we set for ourselves, it can cause a heavy amount of stress and anxiety.

You’re allowed to mess up. You can’t do the right thing all the time, and that’s okay. Part of stress management is learning how to forgive yourself.

Your Attitude

Let’s say that someone breaks into your home and steals your expensive gaming computer. Your insurance company will replace it, but you still can’t get over the loss of the thing you use to destress each night.

If you’re doing a good job at work, you may still freak out about a big project coming up. You know that you’re going to do fine, but your attitude is sending different signals.

Change

It’s hard for people to adapt to change. Something happy like moving on to college or getting married and moving out of your parent’s house can be huge stress causes if you let them.

They won’t cause as much anxiety as something devastating like the death of a loved one, losing a job, or getting a divorce, but any kind of unexpected change can get the heart racing. The sooner you can accept your new reality, the sooner you can start feeling like yourself again.

Take Control of Your Anxiety by Learning What Triggers Stress

Are you tired of dealing with a racing heartbeat and sweaty palms? Everyone goes through periods of anxiety. When it becomes a problem is when you’re dealing with chronic stress.

You can either learn what triggers stress and try to work through your problems yourself or talk to a professional. Either way, it’s time to take your life back, and we can help. Check out our blog to learn more.
