What Is the Best Type of Cookware for Meat?

C:\Users\faiza\Downloads\Image.jpg

Thanks to COVID-19, more people have decided to skip going to a restaurant and are trying their hands at the culinary arts. From baking off a perfect loaf of sourdough to feasting on banana bread, cooking at home is a new way of life for many. If you want to perfect your skills, though, then you need to have the right tools on hand.

This is especially true when you want to sear off a perfect steak. What is the best type of cookware for meat? Read on to find out!

Cast Iron Is King

Whenever the subject of the best type of cookware for steak comes up, the first response is always going to be a cast iron skillet. This is because cast iron is fantastic at retaining heat and giving you that perfect sear.

There are two types of cast iron skillets to choose from seasoned skillets and enameled. Seasoned skillets are generally less expensive, but require more care to preserve the seasoning on them. Enameled cast iron is a favorite among home cooks thanks to its ease of use, but it tends to be a major investment at $200+ per skillet.

Carbon Steel

If cast iron is the king, then carbon steel is definitely an heir to the throne. Carbon steel has many of the same properties as cast iron but in a lighter weight package. Most professional chefs have at least one carbon steel pan that they’ve seasoned to perfection for regular use in their kitchen.

Carbon steel comes in a number of different thicknesses, the thicker it is, the better it is at retaining heat. Like raw cast iron, you need to season carbon steel in order to boost its nonstick properties.

Stainless Steel

If you’re looking for versatility and affordability, then stainless steel meat cookware is a great option. Stainless steel pans are great at distributing heat evenly through the pan, so you won’t have to worry about hot or cold spots. Plus, they’re super versatile, so you can use it for pretty much any type of meal that you want to cook!

A Note About Nonstick Pans

Nonstick pans are tremendously popular thanks to their ease of use and cleanup. When it comes to steak cookware, however, it’s just not a great option.

Many nonstick pans have a Teflon or PFOA coating that can emit toxic fumes when placed on high heat. There are some nonstick pans that have a delicate ceramic coating. While these pans are certainly safer than traditional nonstick pans, they’re still not the best option for cooking meat.

What Is the Best Type of Cookware? The One You Like the Most!

When it comes to meat cookware, there are a ton of options on the market. The answer to the question “what is the best type of cookware for meat” really comes down to your personal preferences. Cast iron is super popular, with good reason, but if the weight and upkeep are too much, then carbon steel and stainless steel are perfectly viable options!
