Special Ways to Honour a Loved One Who Has Passed

One thing we are sure of in life is that it doesn’t last forever. As we age, people we know, and love will pass away. It can be difficult, but one way to help you focus and deal with the emotion is to plan a memorial to honour that special person’s life. Remembering the person in their best light and sharing things they believed, found essential, or enjoyable will bring their personality to light. You might want to consider some of these ideas if you have a funeral or memorial to plan.

  • Select a Funeral Service Provider: The first order of business is to make sure all the logistical arrangements for the burial are taken care of. For example, the Funeral Director – Academy Funeral Services can be located through their website. Once you have the information you need about time and venue, you can make your plans regarding the funeral and other things you may choose to do.
  • Identify the Best: Before you make too many plans, get together with some people that knew the deceased and reminisce about their character. What did they live through, what did they feel strongly about? If they were passionate about the environment, maybe try a green burial. Consider the defining moments and achievements that made your loved one special. Try to remember their favorite song, favorite movie, or book. Was there a sport or hobby they were passionate about? Try to incorporate all of that in the funeral or memorial somehow. Click here for information about adult acne, which many people suffer from.
  • Eulogy: There will likely be a few different people who will speak at the funeral, but the most important part is the eulogy. When choosing the person for this role, consider that a good speaker can make the tribute unique and memorable in the best way. Try to find someone who is gifted at speaking and maybe has done a few funerals before. To complement the eulogy, see if you can have a video or slideshow prepared to show just after the eulogy is given.
  • Order of Service: This is the name for the printed piece that everyone at the funeral service gets. It is often considered a memento, something that people can keep as a reminder. Try to make this document as special as you can. Don’t worry about what others have done; make something beautiful that people will want to keep. Include the character of the deceased, what they loved, and some nice photos too.
  • Memorial Items and Gestures: These days, some beautiful ideas are being tried, like handing out baby trees or seeds to be planted in the memory of a friend. You can have life books made that document a life with better detail and more photos. Or, you can give donations in the name of the deceased.

If you follow the service with a meal, serve your loved one’s favorite food. Have an open mic so people can share a few words. Sometimes it is at the dinner where people feel more at ease and remember something important to share. With every step consider the personality of the deceased and create an experience that represents them, and they would have chosen to do.
