3 Ways To Have A More Bohemian-Style Home

When it comes to the design and decor of your home, it’s really a personal choice for how you want your home to look and feel. While some people want a simplistic, modern feel, others are more partial to something that feels warmer and vintage. For those of this camp, going with a bohemian-style home could be a great option.

If this seems like something you’d like to try but you’re unsure how to go about it, here are three ways you can have a more bohemian-style home.

Choose The Right Colors

Color has a lot to do with making a room look and feel like it’s been designed in a bohemian style.

According to Lauren Flanagan, a contributor to The Spruce, to make a room bohemian in color, you need to embrace both natural and rich colors. Traditionally, natural or earthy tones like browns are used for a majority of the base colors for bohemian style. Along with these colors, you should also use rich, dark tones for colors like blues, purples, and oranges. Using the richest of these jewel tones will really make things pop against the more neutral tones. And when you’re looking to add a little more punch, you can also opt for some metallics to complement the other color choices.

Bring On The Pillows

Most bohemian decor and style embraces form over function. As a way to display this, you’ll want to bring in far more pillows and other comfortable yet decorative elements than are actually needed for your space.

As for choosing which pillows to use, Caroline Picard, a contributor to HouseBeautiful.com, recommends that you choose pillows made from a variety of textiles as well as a variety of sizes, shapes, and colors. By stacking pillows and using all different versions of thick and decorative textiles for the shams and coverings, you’ll be fitting the exact bill for bohemian style.

Fill Your Walls

The decor you choose for your walls can also make a big impact for your bohemian decor and style. While other schools of thought might lean toward more traditional wall features, bohemian style goes a bit off the beaten path.

Erica Reitman, a contributor to HGTV, shares that wall hangings are much more bohemian than other forms of art or decor. For example, placing a weaving or macrame on the wall, especially one that’s been homemade by a bohemian artist, can really pull your entire room together and make your bohemian inspiration undeniable.

If you’re wanting to restyle your home in order to make it look more bohemian, consider using the tips mentioned above to embrace this style in an obvious yet chic way within your living room or bedroom spaces.
