Essential Cleaning Tasks You Should Do This Summer

The summer season is the best time to do some fun activities with your families and friends. Many people are going out on a road trip, hiking, or having a simple backyard cookout at home. While we are having fun and keeping ourselves busy during the summer season, it is also best that we perform the necessary cleaning tasks to keep our home in good condition. Our responsibility is to keep our surroundings clean to prevent health problems, appliance breakdowns, or disasters like floods or fires. Here are some essential cleaning tasks that you should do.

Refrigerator

Cleaning your refrigerator is an important task to do regularly, and especially during the summer. Keeping your refrigerator clean will help it to work effectively and maintain the right temperature to preserve your food. You should also remember to clean its dusty condenser coils to prevent your fridge from working harder and make it energy-efficient. It is best to clean your fridge twice a year, or more often if there are pets inside your home.

You can locate the condenser coils at the bottom front or the back of a freestanding fridge. For built-in types, the condenser coils are usually located at the top. Make sure that you turn off the power and unplug the refrigerator before you perform the cleaning.

Dishwasher Filter

Most dishwashers have filters that you can manually clean. Neglecting this task will result in odors or food particles on your already cleaned dishes. You need to clean your dishwasher at least once a month. Dishwasher filters are usually located at the bottom, with some having two removal parts like a flat mesh screen and a cylinder. Use an old toothbrush and hot water to clean the filter.

HVAC System

Your HVAC system needs regular maintenance and cleaning. Its motors and other parts are always in use to help regulate the temperature of your home in any given season. This means that the system accumulates dust and dirt and through the air ducts to distribute cold air, which you will need during summer. Cleaning the air ducts can be challenging, which is why you need professional cleaners like Bridge City Duct Cleaning to do the job. Your air ducts must be free from any dirt buildup that can cause rust and corrosion. If you see any moist buildup in your air ducts, there could be holes already which you need to fix immediately.

Dryer Duct

Ensure that you consistently clean the lint trap before doing your laundry. Leaving this unattended may lead to wasting energy and an increase for the risk of fire. You may also install a rigid metal duct that can prevent the trapping of lint by routing it directly to the outside.

It is ideal for cleaning your dryer duct at least once a year. Remember to pull the plug before cleaning or shut off the gas if it’s a gas model. You need to disconnect the duct from the unit then remove the lint using a drill-powered cleaning apparatus or a long-handled brush. A vacuum with a crevice tool attachment will be able to suck up the lint from the dryer and the wall. While you are cleaning the duct, you might as well brush and vacuum the exterior vents.

Final Thoughts

The summer season is an ideal time to conduct some cleaning on the critical components of a house. This season provides clear weather but can cause the accumulation of dust and dirt. You must perform regular maintenance and keep your home clean at all times.
