Front Porch Design: 4 Tips for Designing Your Front Porch

Are you planning on decorating your front porch? Not sure where to start? Your front porch is the first thing you and your visitors see when they come to your home. This is a great way to welcome visitors or add curb appeal in your neighborhood, so it’s important that you make a great first impression.

Keep reading to learn some front porch design tips that will help get the inspiration you need for creating your space.

1. Create a Seating Area

One of the best ways to create a warm and inviting front porch space is by adding a seating area. This sends a message to your visitors that you want them to come and stay awhile or gives you somewhere to enjoy a cup of coffee while watching the sunrise. You don’t have to have a big budget to redo this space either, keep an eye on estate sales for outdoor furniture. Then you can give it a fresh coat of paint or some new cushions to help match your decor.

A porch swing is also a great addition to the seating area and can help you spend those warm summer nights. When looking for the best porch swings keep the size and shape of your porch in mind.

2. Be Consistent

If when entering your home you have a traditional, farmhouse style, then you don’t want to create a tropical oasis on your front porch. This small, transitional space should reflect the house itself so your design ideas from the inside of your home should also extend to the outside.

Use some of the same color schemes, textures, and decor that can be found inside your home. If you use neutral colors inside or have one primary bold color, this can also be done outside. This will also help you when shopping for your outdoor space so you can keep a cohesive look throughout.

3. Add Great Lighting

If you are planning on enjoying your porch during the evening or night then you need to make sure you have the proper lighting. The lighting will create a nice ambiance for when the sun is down and will encourage you and your guests to enjoy it longer.

Depending on your style you could add some wall sconces, outdoor chandeliers, or even some large pillar candles. These simple touches will also help to pull the look of your space together nicely.

4. Get Creative

If you have created a budget for your front porch project you can easily stick to it if you get creative when shopping. Once you have a design in mind, you should visit thrift stores, garage, yard, and estate sales. You can also look at your local social media marketplace page for people who are selling their items for a great price.

Retail stores also have great sales at the end of the season, so that is a great time to look for new pieces that will work for your space.
