Gloomy Old House – When To Give It The Much Needed Makeover?

Looking at the same facade and parking on a driveway, which has worn out over time, can be gloomy. The same mundane look of the house that was once a jewel to cherish making you go bonkers?

Our houses are often a portrayal of our inner self. The design of the facade, the detailed roofing, or manicured front garden makes a statement by themself.

An attractive-looking house can elevate your mood in the blink of an eye. If you are planning to get a quick makeover, here’s a guide to get you started.

Roofs

Roofs are fundamental structural elements of the house, adding functional as well as aesthetic values to it. But we often miss paying attention to these.

Roofs are of different types.

  • Gable Roof – It consists of two equal-sized sloping roof faces that meet at a top ridge on top of a rectangular house. It resembles the Monopoly houses. There are different kinds of Gable – Open, Boxed, and Crossed Gable.
  • Hip Roof – The second most popular roof after gable. Roof slopes upwards from all four walls. On a rectangular house, two forms triangles and two trapeziums. It can be Crossed or Pyramid Hip roof.
  • Flat Roof – They are an efficient way to maximize space in the house. They are cheaper than the sloping roofs. The drawback of such a roof is being prone to leaks and needs regular maintenance.

The roof that you select should match your house plan and imbibe the local essence. The selection of the appropriate type of roof adds an aesthetic value to your house.

Spring is the ideal time to get your roofing done. The moderate spring season poses no problem for the roofers. The roofing contractors with experience in business can take up any job – roofing installation or repair services.

Fencing and Garden

Fencing does not only play a role in enhancing your home’s exterior design but also provides security. The right fence, be it wood or any other material, affects the entire look. With homeowners seeking more safe houses, fencing is on the rise.

Depending on the type of yard, the fence may vary. The most popular fence types are:

  • Aluminum
  • Wood
  • Wrought Iron
  • Vinyl

The material for the fence may vary depending on the goal. You aim for security and privacy while taking up your fencing project and often miss the design element.

You can plan for a unified look by matching the style of the house with the front yard garden design. You should select the plantations basis the maintenance they need. Do take into consideration the hardscape features like trees into account.

The favorable growing conditions like soil, moisture, and light will help nourish your garden naturally.

You can opt for a Cottage Garden, which is ideal for a small and cozy house. The garden can have a few flowers and vegetables or herb plants. If you have a one-storied House, a small ranch will compliment it the best.

The Porch

If you want to beautify the entrance, then adding a porch should be on your cards. It can be the traditional portico or the screen porch.

The porches are a place to offer a place of respite, where neighbors, friends, and family members can gather. A portico does this job for you perfectly. An open porch allows you to feel the breeze or the sun. It can have fans and lighting too.

Screened porches have added protection from insects or rodents. They are very popular for outdoor dining and living rooms. You can also add outdoor fireplaces and electrical arrangements for TV, lighting, heating, and fans.

Driveway

Different driveway finishes and materials can meet your unique design tastes. The factors that determine the apt driveway:

  1. The durability that you expect, and
  2. The level of maintenance you are ready to commit to

Resin-bound driveways are increasingly popular with homeowners. They allow water to pass through and can often crack if not correctly installed. If you like sandstone with colors and patterns to choose from, then go for Indian stone driveways.

The most affordable option is the Gravel and Stone driveway. They need regular maintenance and top-up. You can opt for Brick and cobblestone or block driveways if you are flexible with the budget.

Asphalt and tarmac driveways are ideal for a property with a small garden. If you are on a budget, then this is the option for you. Stamped or pattern imprinted driveways are decorative ones. It’s very durable, requires less maintenance, and can hold heavyweights too.

A house with a pleasing look, a portico with two armchairs overlooking the decorative driveway await your return. Returning from work will be more fun. Settle yourself on the armchair, pull a beer from the fridge and enjoy the setting sun. A Thing Of Beauty!
