Questions to Ask Before Hiring Professional Plumbers

Whether for routine maintenance or an emergency, you need to call a professional plumber for repairs. For example, if the water is overflowing in your sink, it may be time to hire a plumber who has many years of experience.

Therefore, if you are unsure of handling plumbing issues on your own, it is best to call a professional plumber. Here are some key questions you can ask before hiring them:

What Are Your Credentials?

Before hiring a professional, it is essential to know whether they are qualified for the job. For example, you will not hire someone who only specializes in a specific commercial plumbing issue, such as if the plumbing problem is only in your kitchen sink.

Thus, depending on their qualifications, you have to select a plumber properly.

Do You Have a License?

A professional plumber will have an explicit license on display in most cases. If they do not have, chances are they will not be serious about their work. Ask them if you are unsure how one qualifies for a special license. They will most likely be happy to tell you everything that goes into earning a license.

How Will You Resolve the Issue?

According to recent statistics, one in ten homes in America has small plumbing leaks that waste at least 90 gallons of water every day. So, before hiring, you should ask how they plan on resolving the issue for you. In most cases, professionals will have a list of general solutions that they can provide to your specific needs. If it can be quickly done without parts or supplies, they may do it for a small fee. For example, many plumbers will remove and replace aerators without charging much.

What Type of Warranty Do You Offer?

In most cases, a professional plumber will have some sort of warranty available with their work. It will be spelled out on the invoice that they provide you in most cases. If it is not there, be sure to ask before they leave. The warranty is an assurance that if there are any further problems with the plumbing after their visit, they will come back and fix it for free.

What Is Your Experience?

Similar to qualifications, it is essential to ask about a professional plumber’s experience before hiring them. Plumbers with more years of experience are likely to be better equipped to deal with a broader range of plumbing problems. They will also have more tricks up their sleeve for fixing things on the spot. So, years of experience can be stated on their website or business card. If not, ask them directly.

What Is Your Hourly Rate?

In most cases, a professional plumber will not charge by the hour. However, it is still important to ask what their hourly rate is just in case. This way, you will budget for their services ahead of time. Keep in mind that most plumbers charge more for emergency services or if they have to travel a long distance.

How Soon Can You Visit?

Before hiring a professional, it is essential to know when they can come out and what is included in their visit. For example, most plumbers provide an assessment of your plumbing situation before providing any services. If they need parts or supplies before starting work, ask them how long it will take to get them.

Hiring a plumber is not a tedious process. But getting a good one can be. So, inquire a little before hiring a professional plumber, and get a good experience.
