Tips for Choosing the Perfect Dining Side Chair

Do you love your dining table but find that the chairs are a bit worn? Maybe they’re wobbly, chipped, or cracked and need to be replaced. Or, maybe you haven’t replaced them in years and want to give your home a new, updated look. Whatever the reason, new dining chairs are on your list of things to do. Before you set off on your hunt, we’ll go over some things to consider when selecting new dining side chairs for your table.

You should keep in mind that your chairs and table do not have to be an exact match. The chairs also don’t have to match each other. The main focus should be on making sure they sit comfortably under the dining table and that they each are the same height. Sometimes an unconventional look can work just as well in the space.

Measure the table so you know the dimensions you should look for. Then, think about how many chairs the table needs. If the table can be extended, take that into consideration as you determine the number of chairs to buy. Also, what type of foundation does the table have, and how is it shaped?

If the table is rectangular or square with four corner legs, there is a strict limit on the number of side chairs that will fit. A round or oval table with a pedestal base or foundation doesn’t have legs at the corners to block other diners from pulling up an extra chair. Find a dining side chair for your home online.

The style of chair depends on the kind of dining you want for your family and guests. If it’s a formal space, invest in open, highbacked chairs with curves and ornate design elements. A more casual dining space can use chairs with closed backs and simple, smooth designs.

Materials are another consideration to make, especially if you have young children and pets in your household. Upholstered materials in light colors may not be the best option if that is the case. They will easily stain and trap pet hair. If anyone suffers from allergies, the dust and mites that live in these fabrics will surely set off a bout of sneezing.

Leather upholstery is easy to clean and maintain. It’s also hypoallergenic, so you don’t have to worry about allergens finding a home in the chairs. Wood is another option that works in homes with children and pets. Just be sure the chair isn’t too heavy for your little one to pull and push.

If you choose to go with fabric upholstery, you’ll have way more color and texture options than wood or leather. Microsuede is great because, much like leather, cleaning up spills is simple.

Don’t forget to decide if you want the chairs to have arms. While arms will take up more space and you may not be able to fit many chairs, they are comfortable when sitting for long periods.
