What Are the Different Types of Closet Doors That Exist Today?

Around  in the United States need remodeling in some way, shape, or form. One of the easiest remodeling projects you can tackle yourself is to hang up new closet doors. But there are plenty of different types of closet doors out there, so how do you know which to choose?

Here is your quick guide to the different types of closet doors to start the remodeling process.

Barn Doors

Barn doors are the best type of closet doors on the door market. These doors are sliding doors, so it’s perfect for those who are limited on space. No more frustration when your closet doors end up hitting your dresser or the end of your bed.

You do need to bring the sliding barn doors in front of the closet, however. You’ll also need enough space above the door frame to hold the rails for the door. These doors are quite heavy, so expect to put a little more effort into the opening and closing of your closet door from here on out.

Bifold Doors

Bifold closet doors are one of the more common options out there. These are doors that fold in half as you open them. This helps conserve space as well but still keeps the door in the door frame.

One of the biggest issues with these types of doors is that they sometimes need a bottom piece to work properly. And even then they tend to pop out of place and act up.

French Doors

Now if you’re not worried about space, you can opt for beautiful french doors. These doors offer a full-opening double door and have glass pieces throughout.

With french doors, you tend to find the bedroom looks more open, as the closet no longer feels like a closed-off space. But, these doors often require enough space for both doors to swing out properly on both sides.

Bypass Doors

Want sliding doors without paying for barn doors? Bypass closet doors are an option and they’re a great mix of style meets usability. One door slides behind the other, allowing you to access that side of the closet.

The downside to bypass doors is that you can’t have both doors open at the same time. So if you’re looking for something on one side and you find it on the other, you’re going to need to close the door and open the other one to access it.

These Types of Closet Doors Will Bring New Life To Your Closet

Now that you know the different types of closet doors on the market, you can start the process of remodeling your closet. Remember, closet renovations may require you to pull everything out of the closet first. So make room for all the items you’ve stored in there over the years.
